FAQs

Whether you are a AMES Tools trade customer or looking to buy any of our product ranges, our frequently asked questions should help you find what you’re looking for. If you can’t find an answer to your question below, get in touch with our customer service team.

To maintain the performance of your garden tools, it is very important to take good care of them.

After using your tool, always store it away in a dry environment and never leave it outside. When left outside, even in dry weather conditions, your tools can be exposed to moisture from wet grass and dew. When storing your tools, make sure they are completely clean and free of soil after each use. By keeping your tools dry, you will prevent them from rusting or rotting. The tool should be thoroughly cleaned if it has been exposed to chemicals or fertilisers, as these can corrode metal.

It is important to consider the weight of your tools, but this varies from person to person. Each tool’s weight can be found on its product page. The best way to get a feel for the weight of AMES garden tools is to find a stockist and touch them.

All AMES garden tools are covered by a 15-year warranty. Although we are confident in the quality of our products, if you experience any problems with your tools, take them back to where they were purchased. As proof of purchase, you should keep your receipt in a safe place.

Gardening tools are designed and intended for intensive outdoor work. This means scratches and marks are an inevitable part of their lifecycle. If the product is painted (such as our Carbon Steel range) they are likely to have more visually noticeable marks. This does not impact the product’s effectiveness and does not warrant a return.

The handles of these products are likely to become dirty whilst in use. Wipe down regularly, and if necessary, use warm soapy water to clean. This is more prominent in the Carbon Steel range with the plastic handle. Wipe down and allow to dry thoroughly after cleaning.

Due to the metal nature of these products, rust is possible. The stainless steel range is less likely to see this issue, but it still can occur if maintenance is not carried out. After using any tool, we recommend wiping clean and storing it in a dry place. Ideally, these should be hung up to avoid abrasion to the edges. They could also be stored in a sand bucket.

These products are intended for hobbyists and non-commercial use. These should not be used by horticultural or agricultural companies, as they are not intended for such intensive use.
